Mr and Miss Cimate Change 2024 Bootcp Conept Paper.
MMCK NATIONAL BOOT CAMP SAMBURU COUNTY.
Background.
The Climate Bootcamp in Samburu County, specifically at Kalama Conservancy, serves as a pivotal
gathering for young climate leaders who are actively participating as contestants in the esteemed Mr.
and Miss Climate Kenya Initiative. Samburu County, nestled in the heart of Kenya, boasts unique
ecological diversity, with its arid landscapes and rich biodiversity facing increasing threats from climate
change and environmental degradation. Against this backdrop, the Climate Bootcamp provides a
platform for these passionate and driven young leaders to come together, exchange ideas, and deepen
their understanding of climate change impacts and solutions.
Participants in the boot camp represent a diverse array of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives,
united by their shared commitment to addressing climate challenges through Modelling and driving
positive change in their communities. They are not only contestants vying for the title of Mr. and Miss
Climate Kenya but also aspiring climate activists, environmental advocates, and future leaders in their
own right
Problem Statement.
At the 2023 Mr. and Miss Climate Kenya Inaugural Gala, it was evident that young individuals hold
significant potential to lead climate action and drive innovation. However, a notable gap was
identified in their ability to effectively utilize their personal influence and networks to promote their
ideas and projects. Contestants, despite their passion and knowledge about climate issues, seemed
unaware of their role as advocates and leaders within the climate movement.
The gala underscored the importance of involving young people in climate discussions and
decisionmaking processes. As emerging leaders, contestants possess a unique opportunity to shape
climate policies and actions in Kenya. Yet, without the necessary skills and confidence to engage
effectively, their voices may remain unheard, limiting their impact and potential contributions.
Introducing a boot camp as part of the Mr. and Miss Climate Kenya initiative aims to address these
challenges by enhancing contestants' leadership skills and empowering them to champion impactful
Climate Justice initiatives at the grassroots level. The boot camp will focus on equipping participants
with the advocacy skills and knowledge needed to effectively promote climate justice causes
OUR TRAINERS AND JUDGES.
The Mr. and Miss Climate Kenya initiative recognizes the importance of providing comprehensive training
to young leaders in the field of climate activism. To ensure the effectiveness of this training, we have
assembled a team of experienced trainers and judges who bring diverse expertise and perspectives to
the table. Our trainers, primarily from NIBC Creation Media and other local partners, possess a wealth of
knowledge and skills in climate science, environmental advocacy, sustainable development, and related
fields. They are committed to equipping young climate activists with the necessary tools and resources to
drive impactful initiatives at the grassroots level and spearhead meaningful conversations on both local
and global platforms.
By
engaging judges as part of our training team, we leverage their expertise and insights to provide
participants with a well-rounded learning experience. These judges, selected based on their expertise in
relevant areas, contribute to the development of training curriculum, facilitate sessions, provide
mentorship, and offer valuable feedback to participants. Their involvement ensures that training content
is not only relevant and up-to-date but also tailored to the specific needs and challenges faced by young
climate activists.
Our approach to training young leaders in the Mr. and Miss Climate Kenya initiative is grounded in
professionalism, expertise, and a commitment to empowering the next generation of climate champions.
By tapping into the knowledge and experience of our trainers and judges, we aim to cultivate a cohort of
informed, inspired, and empowered individuals who are capable of driving positive change in their
communities and beyond.
Mr. and Miss Climate Kenya aims to empower contestants with the leadership skills, advocacy capacity,
and collaborative mindset necessary to drive meaningful and impactful climate justice interventions at
the grassroots level.
As Part of the Bootcamp, we will also be supporting 5 Young People to access the training on MMCK's
