Fluency, Confidence & Sentence Flow
Level: Intermediate
Duration: 1 hour
Focus: Speaking fluently and confidently in everyday situations
Materials: None (optional: timer, pen, notebook)
Lesson Overview
This lesson helps students speak more naturally about familiar, everyday topics while improving
sentence flow, confidence, and conversation rhythm.
1. Warm-Up (10 minutes)
Objective: Get the student comfortable and speaking freely.
Activity: Small Talk Starter Questions
- How was your day so far?
- What do you usually do after work or school?
- What’s something interesting that happened this week?
- Who do you usually talk to in English?
- When do you feel most confident speaking English?
2. Vocabulary & Phrases for Everyday Speaking (10 minutes)
Objective: Learn common linking words and natural fillers for smoother speech.

3. Fluency Activity – 1-Minute Speaking Challenge (15 minutes)
Objective: Build fluency and quick thinking.
Give simple topics (e.g., shopping, cooking, talking to a friend) and ask the student to speak for 1
minute without stopping. Then discuss what was easy or difficult and how to improve flow.
4. Confidence Builder – Personal Opinion Questions (15 minutes)
Objective: Encourage natural expression of opinions.
- Do you prefer staying home or going out on weekends? Why?
- What makes a person confident when speaking another language?
- What’s something you’ve learned recently that you’re proud of?
- What would you do if you had one free day with no responsibilities?
- How do you relax after a stressful day?
5. Sentence Flow Exercise (5 minutes)
Objective: Improve rhythm and natural sentence connection.
Practice combining or extending short sentences:
- I woke up late. I missed the bus. → I woke up late, so I missed the bus.
- I like tea. It helps me relax. → I like tea because it helps me relax.
6. Wrap-Up & Feedback (5 minutes)
Objective: Reflect and reinforce progress.
- What did you find most helpful today?
- Do you feel more confident speaking?
- Which part of your speaking would you like to improve next?
Teacher’s Tip: End with a short compliment and one clear goal for the next lesson.
Optional Homework: Record yourself speaking for 1–2 minutes on one of today’s topics. Focus on
linking words, avoiding long pauses, and sounding confident.
