Executive Assistant to the Massmart CEO,
I have was exposed to the Massmart
board, and concurrently on the Massmart
subsidiaries at the time: Makro SA, Game
SA, Builders Warehouse, Masscash Retail
and Masscash Wholesale. At this time I
added value by analysing business
processes and provided solutions in
identified projects which drove value within
the business. In this role I dealt closely with
the Walmart Executives, performing
market analysis and research for the
Executives.

The anchor tenant of my career has been my dedication to retail excellence for
over 21 years across the FMCG, and currently in the Manufacturing and DIY
Industries. I currently serve on the Tile Africa Board, and am responsible for
the profitability of the entire Merchandise, Sourcing, Logistics and Supply
Chain activities.
My responsibility included improving the BBBEE score of the organisation. This
was enabled by understanding the relative criteria that had to be met, then
making strategic adjustments to the preferential procurement composition of
the business in order to maximise the company’s position. I was successful in
achieving a favourable result, with a substantial improvement in the BBBEE
score achieved.

In this role I had to develop and execute a local strategy for Convenience
Retail that achieves the ambitious global ambitions of Shell. I demonstrated
relationship building skills, across different levels, customer teams and
business partners showing support to retailers across the network. Analysis of
assortment, customer and industry trends understanding needs, competition
and success levers. My skills in product demand, forecasting, replenishment
and implemented compliance initiatives that maximised our profitability.
INTERESTS:
I currently serve on the Board of
Waterkloof House Preparatory School
(WHPS). I have been elected as Chairman
of the WHPS Parents Association. In this
role I am responsible for the fellowship and
fundraising activities for the school. I am
tasked to represent the parents viewpoints
and ensure that sound governance is
upheld at the School Executive Committee
and Council Committee.
I am a passionate sports fan, with a keen
interest in Cricket, Rugby and Soccer. I am
a music enthusiast, and am in possession
of a Grade 7 qualification, playing the flute.
Being born in Cardiff, Wales has provided
me with a United Kingdon passport, even
though I am proudly South African. I am
married and father of three energetic boys,
aged 10, 7 and 4 years old.
Merchandise Executive
Massmart Executive
My role within Massmart centered around Category Management for Makro
SA. Within this role I have successfully managed 75% of the FMCG categories
within the food basket. I achieved the accolade of Buyer of The Year whilst
handling Non-Edible Groceries, and am still the youngest buyer to achieve this
accolade. After 10 years as a successful Category Manager I was appointed to
the role of Executive Assistant to the Massmart CEO. I was then promoted to
Senior Merchandise Manager for both Game SA and Masscash SA. During my
time at Game I successfully led the Game Liquor team to the highest turnover
growth during the Christmas period out of all Massmart divisions
In these roles I initiated and implemented sales strategies to achieve and
exceed corporate sales objectives. I successfully grew brands ahead of the
categories they competed in by developing mutually agreed customer joint
business plans. In all my roles I have effectively developed and coached direct
reports to ensure continuous learning. I have motivated my team through
appropriate reward and recognition programs.
