Preparing your Home for Termite Inspection
Termites are considered as pests everywhere, no matter where you are located. Regardless if you own or run a termite farm, we must take measures to avoid and prevent termite infestation since having termites around our homes lead to certain destruction in any part of the house. Some quick fun facts – termites are related to cockroaches (nope, they’re not white ants) and love not only wood, but cardboard boxes or anything related to dead OR living trees. They are destructive since our houses inevitably have parts that are made of wood, therefore, it is wise to have regular termite inspections conducted by experts. Termite inspections may vary in different places but here are general tips that should help you prepare your homes for termite inspection.
1. Make sure that inspectors will have easy access looking at your walls and other hiding spaces, and ensure they are clear of stuff, such as storage boxes, or anything you frequently have lying around for quite a while. On inspection day, clear at least two feet of your walls (both inside and outside) and remove anything unnecessary that may cover your walls for the inspectors to be able to survey the area better. Trimming bushes or undergrowth will also make the inspector’s job easier and more efficient.
2. Store your items in storage houses if possible or if not, do your best to make sure your inventory is well organized. This should help you assess the situation as early as before inspection date and on the plus side, keeps your house organized overall. It will help to label the storage boxes for reference and if you sort items by material-build to further help the inspector in his assessment during termite inspection.
3. Be prepared to take notes and have previous inspection documents ready. Taking notes (literally, not just mental notes) will help you stay aware of any information that the inspector will provide, as well as steps to take if any should be given. Documents from previous inspections should also help the inspectors in their assessment as well as give them references as to what has been done, and possibly, what should be done before the next inspection.
CLEAR, STORE, PREPARE – these are the three things that should help prepare you for termite inspection. It’s easier if you’ve done these before, and it’s never too late to start now.
