Matthew Grant Warren Curriculum Vitae Profile: Graduated with an Honours in French Literature and Translation in 2017. Along with an undergraduate degree specialising in foreign language, this reflects on two great passions: literature and language. Fluent in French and Spanish – has a DALF (Diploma in Avanced French) C2 level. Studied German, Italian, Chinese and Arabic alongside majors in French and Spanish during the undergraduate degree. Is a friendly, determined person who works well with deadlines and who loves a challenge. Above all a keen and fast learner. Education: Hilton College-. Achieved 5 distinctions in Matric (2013); of particular interest are distinctions in both Advanced Programme English and standard IEB English, as well as in French and Spanish. UCT-. Undergraduate degree in foreign languages, majoring in French and Spanish Literature and translation. UCT 2017. Honours degree in French Literature and Translation. Work history: Worked as a French tutor to a grade 10 student for 6 months in 2017, as she awaited exemption from Afrikaans in order to be able to take French as a school subject in 2018. Revised all the required grammar up to that level and taught what she had not yet learned. Unfortunately the Afrikaans exemption was rejected and as such the student did not continue with lessons in 2018. Has also performed translations for the Cape Town Opera from Spanish. The translations can be found on their website under “In the Press” for reviews of Porgy and Bess. Said translations were from both Álvaro del Amo and José Luis Pérez de Arteaga. Interests and hobbies: A passionate reader, but also very much enjoys writing. Achieved second place in a short story contest awarded by the Spanish Consulate in 2015. Also enjoys sport and captained his UCT league squash team for 2015, competing in the Western Cape league. Enjoys football and team sports in general. A keen chess player, who likes to relax by doing puzzles such as Sudoku or jigsaw puzzles. Awards and membership of professional bodies: DALF (Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française) C2 level. Dean’s List in Humanities Undergraduate Faculty UCT 2014, 2015, 2016 (2017 as yet unconfirmed. Awarded four Class Medals (top of the class) over the course of undergraduate career. Achieved at least two class medals during Honours year. Graduated with distinctions in both majors (French and Spanish). Undergraduate degree awarded with distinction. Distinctions in both literature and translation during Honours year. Invited to join the Golden Key International Honour Society in 2015. Achieved Gold in the 2013 English Olympiad.
