FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“Bringing America’s Navy Home” Aug. 8-14, 2011
Leadership Meetings, Community Service, Band Performances Highlight Fargo Navy Week
Fargo, N.D. (Aug. 5, 2011) – America’s Navy is “coming home” to Fargo in conjunction with the Fargo
AirSho.
Fargo Navy Week, August 8-14, is one of only 21 Navy Week celebrations around the United
States in 2011. Throughout the week, Naval officers and sailors will meet with business, civic, education
and government leaders, participate in community events, engage local veterans and complete public
service projects. In addition, Horizon, a seven-piece contemporary music ensemble of Navy Band Great
Lakes, will provide free performances of current Top 40, classic rock, Motown, country, funk and jazz
around the community.
The Fargo Navy Week celebration gives area residents many opportunities to meet some of the
Navy’s sailors and learn about the Navy’s critical mission and its broad-ranging capabilities.
America’s Navy is a Global Force for Good. It is the branch of the military that fights on the
water, under the water and over the water. As such, it is America’s away team, meeting threats
and providing assistance whenever needed.
What the Navy does is important:
o Water covers about 70 percent of the Earth’s surface.
o About 80 percent of the world’s people live near the ocean.
o About 90 percent of all international trade travels by sea.
The Navy is leading our country’s efforts to reduce energy consumption and achieve energy
independence with initiatives that might win our next war, or even avoid it.

Fargo, N.D. (Aug. 9, 2011) – N.D. Gov. Jack Dalrymple has declared Aug. 8-14, 2011, “Fargo Navy
Week.”
Lt. Gov. Drew Wrigley presented the proclamation to Rear Admiral Patricia Wolfe today during

"The Navy is honored to be in the great city of Fargo and the great state North Dakota, meeting
some of the people we serve every day as America's away team," Wolfe said. "It's also an honor to have
Admiral Owens here with us as he is a true patriot who has a long history of service in America's Navy.
