Maddy Sutherland
I am an illustrator with a FAD from Leeds College of Art, and a
BA in Illustration from the University of Dundee. As someone
who has been (very recently) diagnosed with ADHD,
I’ve always loved thinking of new ideas, concepts, and
character designs- I have a busy mind and I’m eager to learn
new skills and meet new people. One of my many passions
is running, and I love starting a morning with an adventure
outdoors, before embarking on a day of productivity. I am
based in Aberdeen, so I’m looking for a role or projects that
are largely remote. I am an independent worker, who loves to
hyperfocus on briefs- I find that communication is paramount,
so I am very responsive (having always worked remotely, even
prepandemic.)

Work Experience-
BlingABC
I worked as an online foreign teacher for New
Oriental’s platform program BlingABC. This role
involved interacting with groups of children, ranging
from 1 to 30, and tailoring my interactions to each
child. Many of these children had never spoken to a
foreigner before, and my role was to increase their
confidence through kindness, patience, and an
international sense of humour. During this role I was
promoted, but unfortunately, due to new regulations
coming from the Chinese Government, many online
teaching platforms have not survived or have had to
make big cut backs.
