I'm Kwezi Louis, an IoT and Embedded Systems Engineer based in Kampala, Uganda, with five years of experience building intelligent hardware-software systems that solve real problems.
I currently work at Innovex Uganda Ltd, where I lead firmware development for solar energy monitoring IoT devices. My work spans designing secure OTA update systems via GSM, implementing BLE wireless communication, building GPS tracking units, and engineering a token-based pay-as-you-go platform that brings affordable solar energy to off-grid communities. I've also delivered firmware for a Swiss manufacturer's remote water pump monitoring system proof that the work I do here meets global standards.
Before moving into my current role, I worked as a Data Scientist at the same company, where I developed State of Charge (SOC) and State of Health (SOH) battery monitoring algorithms, built real-time energy dashboards, and created usage-influencing models that improved solar system efficiency. I know how to make hardware intelligent, not just functional.
My technical toolkit includes C/C++, Arduino, Python, Golang, circuit design, PCB layout, LoRa, MQTT, GSM, BLE, and API integration. I'm comfortable at every layer of an IoT system from the microcontroller to the cloud dashboard.
Beyond Innovex, I've built a smart weather station for agricultural optimisation using LoRa and Raspberry Pi, an automated sanitiser door system, and an energy harvesting prototype using repurposed stepper motors. I hold certifications in Cybersecurity (Cisco), React (Andela), and IC3 Computing (Certiport), and I was a winner of the University Challenge 2023 and a runner-up at the India-Africa Hackathon 2022.
I graduated with a BSc in Computer Engineering from Makerere University in 2024.
I'm driven by one idea: technology should work for people, especially those who need it most. Whether it's a farmer getting soil moisture data on their phone or a family in a rural village powering their home through a pay-as-you-go solar system, that's the kind of impact I build towards every day.
