Letha Carrico Wood grew up in the Midwest in a home filled with art and with storytelling. Early on, she learned that putting the two together was key to finding her creative joy.
Letha's international client list includes Kroger, Sterling Branding Agency, Quaker City Mercantile, Panzani, WECREATE, Creature Agency, and more. What do her clients say? "Letha is faithfully on time and on budget, producing precisely what was needed." Conceptual thinking through the final execution of design strategy is her strong suit.
Letha’s illustrations begin with market and product research, then come ideation/conceptual/compositional sketches, from which she styles and photographs the subjects which inspire her digital, realistic-with-a-bit-of-painterly-style illustrations. Often, research begins at the grocery store. Sound surprising? Why not go where the food is? Staying abreast of current marketing trends is vital to her success, as is leading design into new and exciting directions.
Example: The client wishes to market a pasta sauce as "authentic." Letha's solution: Drench it in silky spaghetti, leaving a few of the noodles "flying loose" to invite viewers to imagine slurping their goodness, tumble on a few juicy meatballs, top with crisp, green basil leaves, then serve the entire dish...how? Using the Roman Colosseum as a bowl, of course.
Noteworthy Accolades:
She earned both her BFA and MFA degrees in Illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Letha also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Foundation Studies Department at her alma mater.
Her work can be found in Advertising, Editorial, Licensing Art, Cookbook, and Package Illustration markets.
