Hi! I've been transcribing and captioning for about 10 years. I got my training at Outdoor Channel where I captioned and transcribed their programs for four years until they had a merge. Now I'm freelancing out of my home office based in Idaho. I charge $1.00 per minute for transcription. (If you can get rates lower than that from somewhere else it'll most likely be poor quality.)

For captioning my rates are negotiable, but I will say a lot of captioners have had to invest in programs that cost up to $5,000. That being said, it'll be around $20 for a 30 minute program or $40 for a 60 minute program, plus the transcription fee if I do both.
