I am a lover or the ocean and wide open spaces. I need travel in much the same way that many species of sharks must keep swimming constantly in order to pass water over their gills and oxygenate their blood, keeping them alive. This feature of my existence has lead me to explore the world's oceans from driving a 56meter Japanese war ship, chasing illegal fishermen through ice bergs in Antarctica, skippering tour boats and free diving with sharks on the Great Barrier and Ningaloo reefs of Australia to being chased down by the Danish navy in the Faroe Islands for interfering with the mass slaughter of Pilot Whales.
I am an environmentalist, an activist an extreme adventurer and recently I have become a mum, giving birth in an Indonesian birthing centre in a record 144 hour labour with no pain relief...so I guess you could also call me a masochist.
Now my husband, myself and my 6 month old daughter have purchased a 17meter, steel hull ketch (sailing boat with two masts) in Spain and are planning to sail around the world.
In the past I have earned my income as a professional underwater photographer, commercial skipper, film maker, swimming teacher, sales consultant, polo groom, poetry/blog writer, cook and coffee maker. Now, with our little floating home and a tiny human to care for, I have many stories to tell, cameras to capture our experiences and a drive to somehow make a living from it all. My passion is certainly to explore (the human psyche and the world around me) and tell stories (through both the written word and stunning photographic imagery).
