Article: Release the brakes!
Release the Brakes!
Yesterday my family and I went to a fun center to have a nice night out.
I’d never been to this place before and was excited to see what would be in store for us.
We decided to start out with go-carts and as we each got accommodated into our individual carts, I
wondered if I’d even be able to get out of that space once I got in. After all, I’m not a small person and
neither is my husband. We are both super-sized and the seat belts felt more like we were being wrung
out rather than protected from any potential mishap.
So, we got going after a short orientation of what to do on the racecourse, the warnings being very
similar to how most flight attendants are ignored when they explain the safety instructions.
But then we were off! Or were we? My cart didn’t seem to want to go forward. Then I realized that I had
both my feet firmly planted on both pedals. One was green, but the other was red. And by golly, I
realized that I was holding myself back by my own actions. I had my foot on the brake and simply
needed to release it. No wonder I wasn’t going forward!
It made me realize something very profound. How many times in life do we go along with the brake on?
We need to release the brakes!
Once I realized that, I was off and running, having the time of my life, along with my family! It’s time to
release the brakes and have the time of our lives. Unless we do that, we are always holding ourselves
back as well as others. We are meant to go forward, not backward, or simply stay in the same place.
After all, if God wanted us to go backward, he would’ve reversed our feet….
Let’s release the brakes and go forward in our lives!
