Experience Description
Self Employed – May 2020 to Present
Since leaving Enercon, I have focused on freelance writing, editing, and proofreading projects. I have also been
writing about my travel and photographic experiences in a blog format and have completed a short non-fiction
book about birds in Oklahoma (available on Amazon).
Currently, I am working part-time as an editor for a company that supplies editing services for professionals
(mainly non-native academics) interested in publishing an article in a professional journal. My area of specialty
includes such broad topics as earth science, energy, and the environment. Editing services include copy editing
for English readability, grammar, spelling, logic, style, and formatting for specific professional journal
requirements.
Enercon Services, Inc., Tulsa, OK – Environmental Consulting – December 2007 to May 2020
While I was with Enercon, I worked on a wide variety of environmental projects. I provided environmental
services for everyone from small mom-and-pop convenience stores, to localized commercial or industrial
facilities, to multi-state petroleum pipelines, and even to nuclear power plants. I dealt with environmental
impacts to surface and subsurface soils or other solids, groundwater, surface water, stormwater, air, and wildlife.
I often worked simultaneously with multiple projects; each with their own interested parties, requirements,
goals, and deadlines.
Each project required its own persuasive report, delivered on time, on budget, and written in a concise, easily
understood style. In addition to preparing reports based upon my own field work, data collection, and research,
I also prepared reports based upon the field work or data collected by others. Part of my responsibilities
included editing other staff or consultant reports for scope, accuracy, grammar, logic, style, and format. This
process involved basic editing for consistency of style, format, voice, grammar, spelling, etc.
I designed reporting formats and parameters to meet specific client and project needs. I designed and assisted
in designing reports to meet those individual requirements.
I wrote field procedure manuals for in-house staff. These procedures included safety, data collection, client and
public relations, job performance, and other considerations. I then trained staff or contract workers on these
procedures.
I designed and maintained Excel reporting parameter tracking spreadsheets for clients. Depending upon client
needs and desires these included various parameters such as safety records, number and types of reports
prepared, projects worked, and others.
Environmental Consulting – other firms – December 1989 to December 2007
I performed services similar to the above, though to a lesser degree. These were primarily focused on
subsurface soil and groundwater contaminant investigation and cleanup across the U.S.
