About

I am an Associate Professor of Applied Linguistics and Communication with a long-standing commitment to teaching, research, and leadership in higher education. Over the years, I have specialized in English for Specific and Academic Purposes (ESP/EAP), discourse analysis, intercultural communication, technical writing, and public relations. My academic interest also extends to applied linguistics research in TESL/TEFL, media studies, and indigenous knowledge systems. I enjoy working at the intersection of language, culture, and communication, exploring how these areas shape learning, identity, and social change.

My career in higher education began at Jimma College of Teacher Education, where I served as a lecturer and later head of the English Department. I then joined Jimma University before moving to Adama Science and Technology University (ASTU), where I have spent most of my career. At ASTU, I have taught more than 13 undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervised over 30 master’s students, and examined more than 50 graduate theses. These teaching and mentoring responsibilities have given me the opportunity to work closely with students from diverse backgrounds, guiding their academic growth and preparing them for professional success.

Beyond teaching, I have taken on several leadership roles, including Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Editor-in-Chief of the Ethiopian Journal of Science and Sustainable Development, and Director of International Relations and Corporate Communication. In these roles, I gained valuable experience in academic management, international collaboration, and institutional communication. I worked to strengthen partnerships between ASTU and global institutions, foster academic exchanges, and promote high-quality research outputs. These responsibilities have allowed me to grow both as an academic leader and as a bridge-builder between local and international communities.

Research has always been central to my work. I have published twelve peer-reviewed articles in reputable journals, presented at six international conferences, and co-authored a book titled Indigenous Gadaa System: Its Potential for Industrial Management and Productivity Improvement. Much of my research focuses on discourse analysis, the role of indigenous knowledge in development, and the impact of communication on education and society. I am particularly interested in the ways language and discourse influence identity, culture, and social transformation.

In addition to my academic and research achievements, I have contributed to community service through leadership in NGOs and educational organizations. I believe that scholarship should not only advance theory but also bring practical value to society. My career reflects this balance: a dedication to rigorous research, quality teaching, and meaningful community engagement.
