Hello,
My name is Joe Gerber and I currently work as an HR Coordinator for a machine shop in Minnesota. The company employs around 140 individuals and I am the lead of talent acquisition at that company. Finding talent in any skilled trades field is an extremely difficult task. Simply put, the level of skill that most jobs require does not match the level of skill in the job seeker pool. This has forced me to come up with innovative ideas to help with the companies staffing needs. This has included creating relationships with the local trade schools, attending career fairs and designing robust on-the-job training programs. I believe that If the skill of the job seeker is not matching the skill of the jobs we need filled then we need to find ways to grow our own talent. This does not mean stop scouring the internet for talent, because if a good fit is out there, then of course it would be wise to hire that individual.
Before heading into the machining field I was employed as a college football coach. I worked for two different universities over a span of 5 years. This is where my recruiting skills were really honed. You have to be personable, charismatic, and show the athlete you care to get them to commit to the school you are working at. It takes all these characteristics to convince an 18 year old male (and their families) that the school is the right fit for them to spend the next 4-5 years of their lives.
In summary, I am a professional with quite a varied background looking for new and exciting opportunities. I believe that my skills will make myself a valued and important team member to your company, and I am excited about growing my skills and continuing to advance my career!
