José Emilio
Zaracho Zárate
Hello!
Let me introduce myself. I'm José Emilio Zaracho, a web developer from Hohenau, Paraguay, a small immigrant town
from the state of Itapúa, where the main tasks of its inhabitants is agricultural production and cattle growing. I started
learning code at the age of twelve, when my folks gave me my first PC. I was fascinated on how the elements from the
websites I visited started to place themselves on the screen, so I started to crawl on the source code to figure out what
was going on. And that was a journey without comeback. Since then I began to learn every web-oriented technology I
could, first using IDEs, later doing it with my bare hands.
After finishing high school, I took a sabbatical year, but just when my neighbor got the chair at the Governor's House of
Itapúa, he decided to take me as the webmaster for the office. Have been there until the end of 2005, when my mother
told me I wouldn’t spend any more years without going to college.
So, when it came to decide for a college education, I chose Marketing and Advertising. I was aware that I could build a
lot of stuff using web technology, but wasn't very well founded into the creativity market and the business. Then, after
some semesters I found my way and direction. During this time, I flirted with some advertising agencies in Asunción,
most in which my professors got shares, but I declined them because I felt I wasn't made for old traditional media. I
wanted to continue growing my web experience.
During my college time, I worked as a freelance web developer and “founded” my own brand called Buenas Ideas.
Later, after getting my degree, being unemployed and with hunger to test myself, I sucked up my pride and words and
went to work for an advertising company owned by one of my former professors. After that first experience I got
scouted by another prestigious advertising company and joined their last team, because it later went bankrupt. I did
enjoy my time in both experiences, but I grew tired of living in Asunción, which by that time was a growing city but that
came with a high cost for its inhabitants. So, I decided to go back to Hohenau. Found an opportunity to start working
for a digital Dubai web agency called Eigital and had some interesting projects with them for a year lapse. Since I
started to gather some attention from interesting clients in my region I decided to quit that job and create my own
office under the name of Ombú. During this time I learned to manage myself and sometimes little teams for some
awesome projects. I founded Ombú with a friend. And this year, for some personal issues, I decided to leave Ombú, so
this friend bought me out of the project.
I learned a lot working by my own as an independent contractor for a lot of clients. I specially learned how to deal with
people by my own. One can appreciate the perks of being the head of a bunch of people and have one of the most
interesting and selfless proves of human dignity, which is help them bring food to their tables. I can definitely say that it
is one of the proudest activities I’ve ever endured.
