Profile Education I am a really dedicated and enthusiastic person who will put my best into everything I do. I have self-discipline, organisation skills, good communication skills, excellent time keeping skills and leadership skills which I developed during my 3 years with the army cadets. During my time with cadets I gain a 2-star ranking as I demonstrated the above skills numerous times. This also makes me very self-motivated with things that I am passionate about such as my ICT, computing and gaming. St Hild's Church of England School GCSE’s Sep 2009 ~ Jul 2015 ICT: A Mathematics: C English: D Religious Education: C Core Science: C Additional Science: D History: E Product Design: E Preparation for working life: D French level 1: Pass Personal money management level 1: Pass English Functional skills level 1: Pass Hartlepool College of Further Education Sep 2016 ~ Jul 2018 Level 3 Diploma ICT: DM English Resit: B Leeds Beckett University 2022 Sep 2018~ Jul BSc Games Design Level 4: Achieved BSCH Computer Security and Forensics: on-going studies (Current level 5 / 2nd year) Experience Betterware Jun 2016 ~ Sep 2016 Sales representative I worked self-employed for the betterware company selling all kind of goods for this company. I had to utilise my customer service skills to be able to gain the sales needed to hit my targets, I also had to establish a clear chain of communication with my employer and to pass that information on to the customers to ensure they was receiving the best customer service we could offer as a company. I had to use my math skills to ensure my customers was providing the correct money and receiving the correct change. As well as my communication skills and maths skills I had to be organised as I was dispatching betterware magazines and collecting the orders as well as sorting out and delivering the orders in a timely fashion to my customers. To do this job and get the results needed I was very self-motivated and the only reason I left the company was to start my college course and better my ICT and communication skills. Voluntary work May 2017 and May 2018 "Gamecon" I also used by free time to help set up and run a college charity event for four days in the month of May in 2017 with me planning to help out this year (2018) again. There was a lot of planning involved with setting up the event initially as there are many considerations that I and others that helped had to deal with. We had to consider security concerns for the college, making sure people didn't wander off to places they shouldn't be, make sure the consoles that people were playing stayed within the event and no one took them outside the designated areas. As well as me personally having to stream the event on twitch and make sure that all went smoothly (which I might add is no easy feat considering it was all live and not pre-recorded). This helped improve my overall team-based skills, also, this has helped me keep organised through planning such an event, as well as giving me amazing communication skills as I had to direct people and tell them about certain games consoles directly whilst staying calm and collected. Personal Statement A dedicated student and disciplined worker with an inquisitive mind an eagerness to learn, I'm applying to University to continue my academic career in the exciting world of technology, and pursue my dream career of becoming a member of the video games industry. My adoration for video games began at a very early age, and it has only grown since then. I want to come to University to meet like-minded people, learn more about the culture and industry, and most importantly, how to make something from it. Computers are something I took a shine to at a young age, learning how to disassemble and reassemble them and how to optimise and maintain their performance through both software and hardware tweaks. On top of all of the obvious practicalities of learning these things, the most valuable skill my years of experience with handling computers has taught me is problem-solving; being able to look at something that is wrong or broken, work out if it can be fixed or resolved, and being able to think of a fundamental solution to how I would go about doing that. I think this is a valuable life-long skill that will enable me to excel in any academic environment, and it was part of what enabled me to finish secondary education with an A in ICT. I continued to study the subject at Brinkburn Sixth Form College the following term, but due to personal issues, as well as feeling generally uncomfortable with the place, I decided to leave. It was during this time that my motivation to learn only grew, and I renewed my studies at the Hartlepool College of Further Education a year later, where I now work towards my desired grade of double distinction. The only other thing that rivals my almost innate love for technology is my love for video games and my profound respect for the large impact it has made on the entertainment industry. While I have no past experience with designing video games, I have a very learned idea of what goes into making one and how every part of development is vital for the final product, much like how computers are built. By no stretch of the imagination, my hobbies primarily consist of playing video games with my friends and helping them out with computer related problems in my spare time. I like spending time with friends, and I maintain a very healthy social life outside of the virtual world. I also very much like to cook; using fresh ingredients and home recipes is something I enjoy, since not only does it allow me to have a healthy diet, I believe it's also an essential skill that can teach you how to make the most of what you have. Outside of my passions for technology, growing up I was apart of the Army Cadets at my local territorial army centre, since the military has always been something I have had a very big interest in. In my three year period there I learned many practical skills, but above all I learned discipline, punctuality, and how to lead a team. I left the Cadets with a 2 Star ranking after my interest in the Army gradually faded away and I realised I wanted to step into a very different career and possibly one of the most befitting careers for my talents to thrive - a career in video games. I have a strong belief that in all of the things we come to do and learn there's another lesson on top if it, something else that can be taken away and applied later in life; dabbling with computers has taught me how to think around problems, my time with the Cadets taught me self-respect and respect for others, cooking has taught me one of many independent skills I will come to learn in my future as an adult, and leaving and re-entering further education taught me self-motivation and gave me a hunger to make something of my life. I am looking forward to seeing what I will learn in University, in more ways than one. Interests My interests include ICT, gaming, computing and socialising with friends and family. I enjoy solving problems and coding and thrive when been under pressure.
