Jonathan Beker

I remember watching Big Fish again when I was 18, I balled my eyes out. It was the 7th or 8th time I've watched it, but that was the first time that it had made me cry. That day I began to understand the true power of storytelling, filmmaking, and editing. Even though I had been learning about visual arts for a while, that was my decisive moment: I realized what I wanted to do and how I wanted to be able to connect with people the way I felt connected that day. 

Today, I’m a creative storyteller with over 6 years of experience within ad agencies, freelance, and creative directing positions for brands. With an ongoing optimistic attitude, I’ve been constantly growing my skills as a storyteller and making new ones now that I've also worked within the start-up world. But now, I know my path and I'm back on track, I feel the need to better myself and expand within a world of connected and active creative minds in the narrative cinematic world, my real passion, and I know I can make extraordinary contributions as well. 

I would like to begin the ’why’ by saying that I’m very experienced in editing, photography, writing, and overall filmmaking. I’ve always been handy with a camera since my father first taught me to shoot photos on a Canon AE-1 when I was 12. Soon after, I was editing my own Youtube videos with my friends in high school with After Effects, not understanding it was really just a VFX software and having to wait full nights for it to render - aaand… Cut to: Graduating Emerson College after pursuing a career in media arts, becoming proficient with Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Final Cut Pro X, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Lightroom. 

Having worked over 6 years as the creative I’ve so colorfully described gave me skills of leadership, storytelling, and more importantly, communication. Skills not so usually contemplated by people looking for the same positions that are incredibly important and that I am aware and good at due to hands-on experience. Smooth and effective cooperation between creatives, clients, and all who form part of a team can make wonders for the influential potential of any form of media. It's the reason why I've created and made successful ads for companies, exponential social media growth for brands, and what I hope will be the key to success in the more complex narrative art world.
