Joelle McCook

I fell in love with English as soon as I started reading on my own (at a young age). I began consuming books as if they were my life- sustaining meals. Throughout high school, I became enraptured by the intricate complexity of diction, loving how an enlarged vocabulary allowed sophisticated sounding words to slither off my tongue. I began my business of editing essays, stories and poetry for my classmates. I achieved awards at my school for getting the highest in English Language for the CSEC Examinations. Over the years, during summer I would write copy for an advertising agency in Jamaica, in addition to tutoring English. I am currently a literature major at the University of the West Indies where I write in both an academic sphere and a recreational one.
