Usability Draft
Draft- Usability Test Protocol:
Objective:
● We wish to test clarity and usability of the instructions.
● We also wish to measure ease of use.
Criteria for Success:
● Materials needed for the completion of the project will be provided.
● Any score of 5 or above will be considered a successful test outcome.
● The average time for an experienced jewelry producer to make a pair of
earrings will be compared to the average time it takes the participants to
create the product.
● Any verbalizations made will also be partially used to indicate the
difficulty level of the instructions. It will also help determine discrepancies
in the text. Any specific spots in the instructions noted to be problematic
more than three times will be determined to be insufficient and changed
for final edit.
Methodology:
● 8 to 12 people randomly selected
● They will be asked to perform a user edit test, in which they will need to
complete the instructions. No time limit will be implemented, but
approximated times will be measured.
● The quality of the product will not be measured because it is not directly
relevant to the objective.
● As they perform the task they will also be asked to perform a talk aloud
protocol test. The participants will be videotaped and any verbalizations
will be noted.
● At the end, participants will be asked to rate the instructions ease and
usability on a scale of 1-10. 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest.
● After all participants have completed the task and survey a final average
of all scores will be compiled and used to determine the overall usability
of the instructions.
