Jessica Neary
Front-end Developer / UX Engineer-
-https://github.com/JessicaNeary
Highly experienced using a React-Redux stack, I trained as a full-stack developer. Initially I found my home
on the front end, gaining immense satisfaction from crafting interaction and highly responsive user
experiences. In my last position I branched back out to work the whole stack. New libraries fascinate and
excite me - my colleagues are well used to me waxing about the joys of GraphQL, or making a case as to
why one can never go back after using styled components. I do this job because it's always interesting and
provides me with a constant stream of new things to learn. I am not content simply knowing that
something works - I need to understand how it works, and whether or not it is the best way to achieve any
given task.

EXPERIENCE
LIGHTFUL
SEPTEMBER 2019 – FEBRUARY
2020
Here I worked as a full-stack developer in a tight knit and extremely agile team. I worked on both the React
based front-end and the PostgreSQL backend, using Apollo GraphQL to communicate between the two. We also
built our own extensive notifications system, using microservices hosted on AWS. We divided our
responsibilities differently each sprint, with a dedicated developer working with the design team and the
remainder split between our strengths and areas where we wished to gain more proficiency. I championed the
use of CSS in JS to wrangle our ever growing component library, and encouraged upgrading the version of
libraries such as React-Router to better enable reusability and modern practices.
VENSA HEALTH
MAY 2017 – FEBRUARY
2019
Using a react-redux stack, I was responsible for adding new features and maintaining both our consumer and
provider portals, as well as our website and overdue accounts payment portal (for which I was the sole front
end dev). After interning for 3 months, I was quickly promoted to an intermediate developer, and worked
without a senior for the majority of my time at Vensa, communicating directly with the design and back end
teams, as well as our product manager to determine what needed doing each sprint.
Our platform was highly interactive and fully responsive, with a structure and design that varied from mobile to
desktop yet was highly reusable. As I was the only front end developer in the team for some time, I became well
versed in working independently and allocating my time to effectively manage my various responsibilities,
initially using the Scrum methodology and later Kanban.
ENSPIRAL DEV ACADEMY
SEPTEMBER 2016 - FEBRUARY 2017
At EDA the environment was more like a tech start-up than a traditional school. We would work on projects of
varying sizes, both individually and as a team. We adopted agile practices and spent a large amount of time
using pair programming. As well as teaching the ins and outs of web development, I also further developed my
communications skills and learnt how to code in a team, using full git workflows. Each Friday we completed a
group project, and throughout the week we worked on smaller applications, usually in pairs, to reinforce the
technologies we were learning. We also completed a 7-day final group project. The code for many of these is
available on my GitHub.
