We served as the middle-man between R&D and our Product groups. In short, we took innovations from our research labs and spun them into products we felt our customers would be interested in. As an internal startup incubator, I reviewed R&D silo innovations and created ways to integrate them into an MVP to pitch to our various product groups and senior leadership committees. My role within the group was to assess current APIs and processes and then determine the proper course of action for developing an MVP. https://bell-labs.com Languages: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Java, C++, Python Frameworks/Services: Node.js, Express, StrongLoop, AWS, Azure, JIRA, Confluence, GitLab Senior Web Applications Dev @Point of Care November 2011 - May 2015 Re-designed and Optimized various API services that Web and Mobile Applications used. The backend system was ColdFusion-based, with PostgreSQL. We have developed a system to Track and automate updates with the IBM Watson integration. The system took HTML-based content, broke it into blocks, and then allowed our writers to map questions related to each content block. This was then used to train IBM's Watson platform. Developed a few AngularJS applications. https://atpointofcare.com Languages: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, ColdFusion, Node.JS Frameworks/Services: Node.js, Express, AWS, Confluence, GitHub Web Services Manager Celerant November 2009 - November 2011 Managed and mentored a team of 10 onsite and ten offshore developers. Daily tasks included managing e-commerce development, web support, and client communication. https://celerant.com Languages: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, ColdFusion, MSSQL API Design & Development Experience BlocSide Sports - I was brought in to assess their current API and develop a plan to ensure their product was secure, scalable, and fully redundant. I created proper environments for Dev/Staging/Production in AWS. Then, I determined that the existing system needed to be more trustworthy due to the nature of the previous offshore team that had built it. I built their new API from the ground up using Node.JS, ExpressJS, and PostgreSQL. All documentation was done with Postman. The project was successfully launched in the Apple App Store in Dec 2018 (BlocSide Sports). ADP Was initially brought in to assess their current API Proxy and determine if Mulesoft would be a viable replacement for them. After a few weeks, it was clear that their home-grown API Proxy was much more efficient. Given the company's dependency on the proxy, transitioning to Mulesoft would have been too difficult. Nokia Bell Labs - I was tasked with taking siloed technologies from various R&D groups within Bell Labs and merging their services into a single API we were developing for our messaging platform. I had to properly train the engineers on this team to document their APIS and then work closely with them to switch over shared pieces we were developing, such as User Management, Location, and Messaging. Machine Learning / Deep Learning Experience Chatbots - While at Bell Labs, I worked on an Enterprise Messaging Platform with a chatbot service, which we used to build fantastic functionality into a simple messaging service. We saw a future where all IoT devices use chat as their primary interface. For example, instead of having a car app to remote start your car, what if your car was just a “friend” in your chat app? Simply send your car a message that says, “Start in 10 Minutes,” and the car will do so. I found the idea of chatbots talking to other chatbots to be the most interesting. IBM Watson - While working for @Point of Care, we became a content partner with IBM’s Watson Platform. I was tasked with converting all our Mobile App Content into a format that Watson could ingest. I also created an internal web portal so we could adequately manage our content changes and train Watson accordingly. Once the portal was in place, I had to develop a service that our customers could use to “grade” Watson’s response to their questions. Social Health Tracker—I entered a virtual hackathon while working for @PointOfCare, developing a service to track disease outbreaks via Social Media messages. I built a system of servers that ran constant cron jobs against Twitter and Facebook. We used over 900 disease terms, like “Flu, Asthma, etc.” Mobile Experience BlocSide Sports - Developed all the backend APIs for BlocSide Sport’s iOS-based Crypto-wallet App. Worked closely with the iOS team to ensure all features/services within the app were available and fully documented before pushing tasks to their front-end developers. (iOS/Swift, Node.js Backend) Nokia Bell Labs - Was a key decision-maker on Nokia’s Messaging Platform initiative. The initial MVP was developed in iOS using Swift. I also created a Hybrid mobile application using the Ionic Framework and launched it in both the Apple and Google Play stores. This app served as an interactive event guide for a 1000+ event held by the company's President at Bell Labs. (iOS & Android/Ionic, backend Node.js and C++ UDP service) @Point of Care - I re-engineered the entire backend infrastructure that fed all of @Point of Care’s iOS and Android mobile applications. They had over 25 apps in both app stores while I was there. I developed a Windows 8 version of our mobile apps, which won an Editor’s Pick award in 2013. (iOS/Obj-C, Android/Java, backend ColdFusion, and Node.js) Celerant - I created a mobile-friendly version of Celerant’s E-Commerce platform, which became a new product offering for over 500 e-commerce clients. (iOS & Android/PhoneGap, backend ColdFusion) Education Colorado Technical University - 1997 - 2003 - Bachelor of Science - Information Systems Management Arapahoe Community College - 1995 - 1997 - General Studies Community Experience Founder Code Junkies February 2014 - 2018 (personal project) I started the NJ Code Junkies Meetup group as a way for me to meet other developers in the area that were interested in getting together 1-weekend a month to build quick little mobile apps as a group and post them up on the App Stores for our portfolio. However, my first scheduled meetup had over 50 RSVPs, and I quickly discovered that this group would be much larger than I had expected. But I enjoyed the challenge, so I ran with it and built one of the largest developer meetups in NJ. As a tech community leader, I have had the privilege to meet many great people in NJ’s startup community.
