Police officer jumps in kayak to save drowning dog
Dogs are considered to be man’s best friend for several reasons such as their personality,
loyalty, and willingness to provide unconditional love to their families among others.
They often bring us joy and whenever dog lovers or anyone for that matter see one in
distress, we instantly know that something needs to be done about it.
Such is the case when the Washington Township Police Department (WTPD) received a
report about a gray boxer and mastiff mix named Akela that had gotten loose and found
herself stuck neck-deep in muddy water in a local pond.
Police officers arrived at the scene where they saw the poor K9 struggling to keep her head
above the water. Dogs are usually good swimmers, but she was having a difficult time going
back to land due to the thick mud surrounding the pond.
Luckily, Officer John Kuligowski managed to borrow a kayak and began paddling his way to
Akela without any hesitations despite the chance that the kayak might flip off and get stuck in
the pond too.
The officer was not alone on his rescue mission as fellow policemen Chief Thomas Cicerelle
and Officer Dallas Overko lend out a hand to take the pooch out of the water.
Thanks to their quick thinking and teamwork, they managed to get her back on land.
Despite the ordeal, Akela was in high spirits and even posed for a few cute photos with her
rescue team before handing her over to Animal Control Solutions.
Unfortunately, Akela is yet to reunite with her family as Animal Control hasn’t found them yet.
They also added that they found her in the area of Brass Castle Rd and Jonestown Rd. and
that if anyone knew who her owners were, they can be reached at Animal Control Solutions
@- or through the Washington Township Police.
