EMPLOYMENTS
Company: Vitruvius Limited Date Range: Aug 22-Dec 24 Location: Auckland, New Zealand
Hired as: Senior Project Engineer Company Function: Engineering Consultancy
Working in a rail design consultancy, I carried out project management functions for designs being done in-house and sub-contracted
out. Projects ranged between $10k- $1m. Over these projects, I was responsible for winning the project (submitting tenders), managing
the project (Scope, programme, cost, quality etc), and then closing up the project and sorting out final accounts with the client.
I trained up to carry out the Engineer’s Representative role, a commercial middle-man role acting between a client and contractor on
multimillion-dollar projects. During these projects I was responsible for contractor claims (payments from the client) and acting as a
representative on behalf of the client to make sure the project ran smoothly. This was done by hosting weekly meetings with the relevant
parties and resolving blockers utilising my engineering knowledge.
During my time at Vitruvius, I built a financial automated tool which took timesheet data (which includes project bookings) and turned
this into guides for the project managers & directors to be able to better understand project spend, turnover, projections, CPI, SPI etc.
The company’s turnover was circa $15m in which we had 40 staff.
My greatest achievement was becoming seconded into a client organisation to run the tender and then the design of a pedestrian
modular bridge over a railway.

Henry Watson CV
Company: Systra (Formerly TSP) Date Range: Jan 18-Jul 22 Location: Bristol/Birmingham, UK
Hired as: Principal Engineer Company Function: Engineering Consultancy & Contractor
I ran the design team for a steelwork modular product (railway station platforms) which working for both a consultant & contractor. This
was a cradle to grave role in which I was exposed to: selling the product at roadshows, designing and optimising the product, managing
multiple design staff, managing the sub-contract with a steel fabricator, trial steelwork erections, assisting with the steelwork installation,
and preparing the closeout documentation.
Projects ranged in value from £200k to £2m in which I had the financial responsibility of the design side (circa 10%). The experience I
gained over this period is what led to me becoming chartered.
My Greatest achievement was re-designing the product which had been unchanged for 10 years to make it more sustainable as well
as successfully designing & installing the product at its flagship project at Liverpool Street, London.
Company: TSP Projects (Formerly Tata Steel) Date Range: Apr 16-Jan 18 Location: York & Cardiff, UK
Hired as: Civil Engineer Company Function: Engineering Consultancy
Working in a rail design consultancy I was the package manager for a £6m design contract on an electrification upgrade project
between Cardiff and the Avon Tunnel. This role was set within the PMO (preconstruction management office) in which sat the client
and contractor management staff. My responsibilities included taking ownership of the design programme, managing design change
and gaining client acceptance, raising early warnings and talking these through with the client, resolving technical issues and feeding
the information back to the designers. Through this project, Henry gained vital project management and project engineering skills to
obtain a structured design delivery whilst ensuring client satisfaction.
My Greatest achievement was building a design tracker in which became a commercial tool protecting the company in this high
profile, fast paced, and cost reimbursable contract.
Company: Tata Steel Date Range: Jun 14-Apr 16
Location: York, UK
Hired as: Graduate Engineer Company Function: Engineering Consultancy
I joined the company as a civil engineering graduate and was exposed to working in a multi-discipline company within the rail sector.
During my time, I was responsible for the preliminary design of numerous platform extensions along the Thames Valley Route, the
Oxford Station upgrade preliminary & detailed design, and the Doncaster Station detailed design.
I gained technical skills alongside design coordination, team management, scheduling, financial tracking, and communication in the
form of reports, drawings and models.
My Greatest achievement was showcasing the Oxford Station Depot Design to the client (Network Rail) through the 3D model in which
was 9 months’ worth of work. After which I got congratulated from the client on the way it was presented.
