 EPISODE 2 SCENE 1 INT. MR PETERS’ LIVING ROOM - NIGHT Camera shows the wall clock which says the time is 1:06 a.m. James is sitting all alone in his father’s living room while everyone else is sleeping. The environment is a very quiet one, the lights in the room are on while James is lying down on the couch, lost in thought. VOICEOVER I can’t let Janet go like that. What if their landlord throws them out of the house? Will she ever forgive me? This is the time to prove my love for her. I know the effort I put into making her my girlfriend. I can’t let this one go at all. NANCY (Walks into the sitting room looking very sleepy as walks towards the light switch). Ah.. brother, why are you sitting here all alone when you are supposed to be sleeping? Is anything the matter? I just went to pee and noticed the light here is on so I just came to switch it off, only to find you here JAMES Nah. It is nothing. I am very fine. Go sleep. NANCY No brother, I.. JAMES I said you should go inside. I am fine NANCY (Turns away from him angrily and starts to walk out of the sitting room). That is your business. I can’t kill myself for you. (Hisses) JAMES (Angrily gets up from the couch just to go after Nancy but she quickly runs to stand at the door) No, you would have stayed, since you have no regard for me again. MRS. PETERS (Walks from her room into the sitting room tying a wrapper) what’s happening? I heard voices... and why are you guys here at this very odd hour? (Turns to look at the time. Camera still shows the time which is about 1:10a.m) Take a look at the time. NANCY Mommy, it is brother James. I went to pee and noticed the light here is on, so I came here to turn it off, only for me to meet him lying down here. He is just so.. MRS. PETERS (Cuts in by placing one finger on her lips). Shhhhh. Give some respect to your brother. Wait for him to talk first. James?? JAMES Mommy, I am very fine. (Mrs. Peters looks at him straight in his eyes with doubt written all over her face) Okay, mommy. I am right behind you. You can go in now. (Mrs. Peters continues to look at him in the eyes) I mean it mummy. Okay, it is fine. I’m off to my room now. MRS. PETERS (Smiling) That’s my son. (With a smile on her face) Now, mommy is happy. C’mon, let’s go. (looks at Nancy) Nancy, let’s go in. NANCY Okay mom (She starts to leave the sitting room) JAMES (Gently pats Nancy at the back) See this stubborn girl. Laughter fills the air as James and Nancy begin to joke and laugh with each other. FADE OUT SCENE 2 EXT. COMMUNITY FOOTPATH – DAY The atmosphere is a bit filled with voices of people and passers-by. James is walking on the road. On the same path are men and women going opposite directions at different intervals. James, who is walking slowly is on a phone call with Kelvin who is in the United States. VOICEOVER What is it you need the money for? JAMES Bro, my business is seriously running down. I don’t know what else to do about it. I’m confused. VOICEOVER Okay? JAMES I am seriously thinking of changing my line of business as this one is not helping me anymore. (Silence) Brother, brother. Hello... VOICEOVER James, just continue speaking please. JAMES Okay, okay.. I thought I lost you there. So, the problem I have now is the the start up capital. Things are so difficult here and there is inflation in price. VOICEOVER Well, Jay, you know I just got here, right? It is not as easy as you guys over there think at all. We spend money on everything and it is not even funny. JAMES I understand brother but .. VOICEOVER Well, let’s see how things go. You have to give me some time. I have to go for now. Bye (Calls ends) JAMES Hello..Big bros (Takes a look at the phone screen and realizes that Kelvin has ended the call) These abroad people. So he couldn’t even wait for me to tell him bye. Well, that is his problem. All I want is the money. He can eat his “bye bye”. (Hisses, puts the phone back in his pocket and starts to walk faster) FADE OUT SCENE 3 INT. MR. PETERS’ LIVING ROOM – DAY Mrs Peters is sitting on the couch using needle and thread to patch Nancy’s cloth. James walks into the sitting room and she looks up with a very welcoming smile. MRS. PETERS My handsome son... JAMES Mummy, mummy..( heads straight to sit next to her and gives her a big hug) How’s my sweet mother doing? MRS. PETERS I am very fine my baby. How are you? You and outings...(She smiles and lightly uses her shoulder to push him in a joking way) where did you go this time? JAMES Mummy, you know naw... a man has to hustle. (Laughs out loud) MRS PETERS Ehen! (Touches James on his laps a little)Before I forget, your brother called me shortly before you came back. This boy, what did you tell your brother? JAMES Mummy...(smiles sheepishly) you know naw... MRS. PETERS Well, I covered up for you. Since you told me your girlfriend needs money, I figured that was the money you stylishly asked your brother for so I just quickly covered up for you. JAMES Ah! Mama de mama! You see why I love you so much? You are the best mom in the whole wide world. (Teases her by touching her chin) MRS. PETERS (Laughs out loud) You this boy, you know how to flatter me. (Looks around the room and towards the door and windows, then she reduces the volume of her voice) In all of these, make sure you keep it away from your father and younger sister, ok? JAMES Mummy, trust me. I am even more scared of them. (They both laugh and give each other a high five) MRS. PETERS Good. You know her mother was my best friend before she passed . Do all you can to keep her. I love her for you. Women need money to stay in a relationship. JAMES (In shock) Ah! Mommy!!!! So you are aware of this. You can now compete with these Gen z around o. MRS. PETERS Yes of course. I know all these things o. Don’t be deceived. (They both laugh and Mrs Peters goes back to sewing Nancy’s cloth) FADE OUT
