Mobilink Business Enters Digital
Partnership with Bahria Town to Develop
Smart City Infrastructure
Mobilink Business created history earlier this month by concluding an agreement with Bahria Town that could
lay the foundation for the first smart city in Pakistan. Bahria Town and Mobilink Business signed a
memorandum of agreement for launching a digital financial services platform for the real estate development
company.
The platform would fulfill the needs of the clients of the organization, as well as the residents of several
Bahria Town residential authorities all over Pakistan. “We will be utilizing Mobilink’s Digital Financial Services
platform to initiate outbound and inbound transactions,” said Malik Riaz Hussain, the Chairman of Bahria
Town, during the ceremony. “In the next phase, we plan to use it for financial transfers between all our
service providers.”
The memorandum of agreement for the project was signed by Chairman Bahria Town and Jeffrey Hedberg,
the CEO of Mobilink, in Islamabad. The agreement is a part of the Digital Exceleration Initiative of Mobilink
Business, which aims to deliver digital solutions to corporations across Pakistan.
The agreement is consistent with the goal of the real estate developer of digital transformation under its
ICT-based smart city initiative. It is expected to reach beyond the scope of a digital financial service.
Jeffrey Hedberg spoke about the significance of this groundbreaking project during the ceremony. “This
partnership is the first step towards a digital evolution, as it provides Bahria Town with the most robust digital
financial services platform for transactions on Mobilink’s resilient 3G and fixed data networks.” He also
explained the vision of the project and its expected evolution in the future. “Furthermore, this platform will
be extended for other communications through our M2M, IOT (Internet of Things), and Sensors offerings for
full-scale Smart City deployments.”
Bahria Town has become the first private sector real estate enterprise with an ICT infrastructure investment of
this kind in Pakistan.
