With STUFF, Kent has directed a range of design projects from small residential, to urban, and installation architecture/design. With STUFF, Kent also leads many of the office’s cultural projects such as the international Bench competition, STUFF’s affiliate publisher OCDI Press, and the Winnipeg installation gallery, DOT. JANUARY 2016 - PRESENT GALLERY MEDIA DIRECTOR + TECHNICIAN @DOT Gallery Canada DESIGNER, SHOP DRAWINGS COFOUNDER, DESIGNER, PROJECT LEADER @ In.the.Middle Winnipeg DESIGNER @ OS1 Design Inc Winnipeg PUBLICATION EDITOR @ University of Manitoba Winnipeg DESIGNER / BUILDER @ Design - Built Winnipeg Kent cofounded In.the.Middle, a design-build practice, while studying for his undergraduate at the University of Manitoba. In.the.Middle pursues a range of projects from installation design, to commercial interior, small residential, and furniture design. Kent’s role with ITM would range from design, to swinging hammers on site, budget management, sub-contractor management, and public relations. Beginning ITM at an early stage in his design career, Kent has learned much about what it means to run a design practice as a balance between cultural practice and entrepreneurship. 2013 - PRESENT Kent worked on a range of small residential projects with OS1 Inc. OS1 specializes in prefabricated construction for rural / country living. Kent followed his projects from design, to shop drawing, and on site construction management. 2015 - 2016 Kent directed the design and editorial content of a few design publications for the University of Mantiba. Kent took the position of both editor and graphic designer. Projects ranged from a catalogue for urban design research in Berlin, to a journal on animal architecture. 2013 - 2016 Design - Built is a residential and small scale residential design/build practice in Winnipeg. Kent’s role with Design - Built was to develop designs, then follow the project as the role of a contractor to budget management and personally carrying out and solving details on site. The nature of design/build encourages the designer to solve design details as the appear on the construction site, rather from the detached position of the drawing table. 2012 - 2013 @HABITAT FOR HUMANITY Canada EVENT PROGRAM DIRECTOR @WINNIPEG CULTURE DAYS Canada GALLERY TECHNICIAN Kent is the art director and technical manager for a small gallery in downtown Wininpeg. His roles include the design and production of media/graphics, as well as installation of hardware for the gallery. 2016 - Present Kent volunteered for Habitat for Humanity for the duration of a single housing project. Kent designed and produced construction documents for a 4-plex in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The nature of the philanthropic project demanded tight budget control. 2016 Event coordination and direction for month to month cultural events from outdoor concerts to public art installations. - Architecture gallery installation and management. 2015 MAKE is a small design cafe in Canada that hosts regular design installations, events and other types of programming.
