Holding a Master’s Degree in Peace Building and Conflict Resolution has given ‘birth’ to my desire to work for people who have been affected by war. My postgraduate degree with a prominent focus on conflict resolution gave me adequate knowledge around conflict stages and ways to alleviate them. Non-violent conflict allows a window of reflection to be open to us. Given that, I would take a lesson home from all the times I had to deal with challenging and tensing situations at my working environment.
As a student I successfully managed to manage time effectively and hand assignments before deadlines while I was working as a waitress in order to support myself financially. My student years ameliorated my communication and IT literacy skills as these were pivotal requirements for conducting research and delivering presentations.
Shortly after the Covid pandemic restrictions were eased I was given a role as a Pub Manager which entailed to recruit, motivate and lead staff members but also learn from them. Whilst this position did not last long as the government announced to extend lockdown, I was able to gain excellent team management skills especially under high pressure.
As a recovery worker I was able to listen to the patients needs and take necessary action for them to be met. In addition, I built a friendly but professional rapport with service users by showing empathy and support.
