BamCraft - Crafting a Green Future: Bamboo in the curio and souvenir industry in Kenya
The main goal for this project was to provide vocational skills to the youth within the IDP
camps on bamboo crafts, furniture and bamboo based construction. I was involved in the
setting up of product design workshops to upgrade existing designs and develop new ones
to increase the local market access.
My other focus areas were:

Help in designing new concepts for new products in the Bamboo Project.
Development of training manuals for Bamboo Project in Kenya. This included data collection, photography of the sequential steps of the different processes and development of
illustrations to aid in textual explanations.
Involved in the training of the IDPs on the necessary steps invoved in bamboo preparation
and precautions when using the material.
Training the IDPs in the various value addition methods to bamboo
Offering graphic design solutions on communication materials.
Invoved in the sales and marketing aspect of the final products that we had done in form of
exhibitions.

Kisumu Prospensity Initiative, a joint project of DANIDA and KIRDI.
The project was on helping the community living around Lake Victoria especially women
and the youth understand how to use water hyacinth to develop curio and handcrafts that
can easily bring them an income as opposed to visualising it as a weed that has taken over
their fishing spots.
My main mandates included:
• Involved in training on product design and development
• Helped in development of new products using water hyacinth.
• Qualitative and Quantitative analysis of Jua kali products and services
• Researched on textile product design in Kisumu (around the lake)
