Faster if: few errors, simple format, familiar content, clean copy, no style
queries required.
Slower if: many errors, complex format, copy marked up, style checks
required, contains equations, symbols, or foreign characters and symbols,
or in a CMS.
Copy Editing
Edit at the sentence level seeking to keep a cohesive flow, which
includes:
All proofreading services, also checking for clarity, flow, redundancies- words/hr.
Faster if: few errors, familiar content, working onscreen, no references or
cross-references, no tables or figures.
Slower if: many errors, unfamiliar content, working in a CMS, or if the
references are inconsistent, incomplete or do not match the text.

Edit on the paragraph level.

reorganizing a manuscript for logic and structure.
Does not include the following unless specified:
• Research
• Writing original material

500—1000 words/hr.
Faster if: well written and organized, familiar content, single author, no
references or cross-references, no tables or figures.
Slower if: poorly written, content unfamiliar, multiple authors (but need
one voice), or edit in a CMS.
