Science writing and science education have been long-term passions of mine. My writing is strengthened by experience in diverse scientific and non-scientific disciplines. I obtained my B.S. in Biology from a liberal arts university that greatly emphasizes writing and communication. I am currently working towards a Masters in Geological sciences as I pursue a career in science writing.
As a junior Biology undergraduate, I was honored to be chosen to fill one of 20 national positions for the Phi Beta Kappa Writing Internship awarded each year. During college, I also served as Chief Academic editor for my university’s science journal. After graduation, I had the opportunity to work for the Institute of Reading Development, teaching adult students to analyze and discuss scientific writing.
I am currently applying my diverse scientific background toward the publishing of an academic paper in pursuance of a Masters’ degree in Geological Sciences. I am also a flotilla staff officer in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, where I take leadership positions in educating the public about marine environmental issues. Recently, I completed an intensive marine geology fieldwork course in Israel, in which I gained valuable experience in collaborating with international students to effectively communicate research results.
