Dr. John Moore +66 - or +66 --/-Bangkok & Phuket (UK passport holder) www.linkedin.com/in/DrJohnMoore Profile Key Skills My career highlights My Education An experienced, successful educator/leader, I remain fascinated by all aspects of learning and in contributing to healthy cultures that allow individuals and teams to foster high achievement. My experience in differing and, at times extremely challenging, contexts has inspired a love of problem-solving, creative & critical thinking, and community based service. A lifelong learner who embraces innovation and change, my career has been rooted in traditional educational settings but I am open to any new opportunity where I can develop my own transferable skills and understanding, help others, and support organisations to develop, grow and flourish. Staff personal and professional development, Timetabling and activity/resource scheduling, Written communication, Active Listening & Verbal Communication, Quality Control Systems & Data analysis, Customer service, Interpersonal skills, Leadership, Team building and recruitment of colleagues, Problem solving, Time management, Public speaking, Critical Thinking, Appraisal & Mentoring & Coaching, Continuous Improvement, Courageous conversations, Well-Being Key Awards & Achievements ● Faced the 2015 Earthquake in Nepal as Principal of The British School Kathmandu (TBS): the first (and only) school to reopen in the country in the initial post-April phase ● The British School Kathmandu: Overall Winners of the inaugural British International School of the Year 2017 with SLT of the Year 2017 and Community Initiative of the Year 2017 ● The British School Kathmandu: TES Strategic Initiative of the Year 2016 (the only category open to international schools) where we helped community groups rebuild 4 primary schools in Dhading (first organisation to complete a school rebuild in Nepal made possible by international donors who responded to the TBS campaign by raising over £300,000) ● Led St.Andrews International School through steady, continuous growth reaching and exceeding 500 students for the first time in 2019 (a 20% increase in just over 12 months) ● Our Quality mark accreditation (May 2019) saw us improve to outstanding in 6 out of 8 categories with leadership being in this group: ‘The inspirational and visionary leadership of the new head of school models high expectations and aspirations for all.’ ● Being amongst the most flexible and imaginative COVID 19 responders with half the school learning online and the other half taking their summer holiday early thus being able to return to face to face learning on July 1st 2020 ● Transforming culture at St. Andrews S107 with students surveys moving to 40+, parent satisfaction from +7 to +40 and staff satisfaction from -15 to over +40 then by 2020 to 45 ● All the schools -) achieved best ever public examination performances, year on year increases in the student rolls, widening of opportunities and services for students, parents and teachers with increases in both revenue and surplus profit ● I have never missed an educational, financial or key performance/appraisal target in the 20 years or so this practice has been the norm for key post holders (including being the only Cognita Thailand school to achieve pre-COVID financial targets in 2019-20 in post COVID reality) ● Lifelong learning not being a decision but a way of life. I studied up to Doctorate level (achieved in 2005) part time and have since written articles, read widely especially around change, success and leadership, marked for examination boards, carried out community work and voluntary work, set up networks such as the Kathmandu Headteacher Group and Quality Kathmandu Schools (QKS) based on professional learning and experiences for staff and students etc. ● Coaching has transformed my own reflections. I consider my own impact on an ongoing basis ● Despite looking, on paper perhaps, an austere, conventional and pro-establishment figure, I am drawn to the side of the underdog, the outsider, the rebel, and the under-appreciated and some of my lowest profile decisions which have led to improvements for the least considered members of my teams, are my greatest and proudest achievements. Although I was once Grade 8 standard, I now play piano very badly which is tolerated by my wife and our well-travelled cats. I will have a go at most things and I love reading, running, music & travel. Finally, despite the title of this section, to a boy whose dad advised him not to bother with O Level French because ‘you won’t need that in Oldham’, I have been able to travel the world, make international friends with wildly different experiences and perspectives, live and work in non-English, non-Western cultures. It has been extraordinary; an utterly fascinating experience.
