I am a freelance proofreader and recent retiree from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT). I worked at ODOT for 34 years; and while I enjoyed my job and loved the folks I worked with, I was ready to start the next chapter of my life, which began with events both planned and unplanned. (Isn't that the way life is, though? I suppose that is what keeps it interesting.)
I moved across the country from Ohio to Arizona (planned) during the COVID-19 pandemic (unplanned). After a few months, I had settled into a life of NOT working and NOT using my brain. It was then that I realized—I miss working; I miss using my brain! This came as quite a shock to me!
The opportunity to become a proofreader presented itself on Facebook, so I decided to take advantage of this unexpected and wonderful opportunity.
Even though I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications, I have been a software developer for the past 26 years. That makes me a proofreader with a Communications degree AND experience as a software developer. Interesting mix!
I discovered that my years as a software developer prepared me for becoming a proofreader. Both careers demand logical thinking, analyzing words on a screen for hours, having an eye for detail, and providing a quality product to my customers. I am ready to do the same for you.
