I've been in IT for 20 years, and I'm an MCSA-qualified Systems Administrator working primarily with Office 365 and Windows Server/Windows 10/Office suite. Until recently I was the IT Manager for a charity in Manchester, UK, responsible for 200 users across multiple sites. The IT systems there were so varied that I feel like I've seen almost everything. Now I live in France with my wife and 2 girls, providing remote IT services for small and medium businesses, everything from remote user helpdesk support to server and cloud services administration, as well as some Powershell automation where appropriate.

I particularly enjoy getting small businesses up and running with tools which until recently would only have been available to larger businesses who could afford the servers and IT department to manage them. Now, with Office 365 and other cloud services, they can have access to those tools themselves - and they might only need a few hours from a consultant like me to get going. My favourite tool at the moment is Microsoft Teams and I love to get people using this to speed up their work and let them do whatever their business does, instead of letting the technology get in the way.

I have also worked as a technical editor (programming books on VBScript, VBA, Visual Basic, and similar) as well as a copy editor and proofreader. I have good attention to detail and am conscientious about my work. I play the bass guitar and speak Italian and French to a decent standard, and German to a lesser degree. I enjoy reading, music, exploring our new home with my girls, and finding new things that I didn't previously think I could do.
