Detra C. Chambliss

My background is bit unorthodox, but I believe it only adds to my value. I have spent the past 17 years serving as executive director for a Non Profit Organization that serves impoverished indigenous children in Mexico and Central America.

I was sent to Mexico to plant the Organization in 2000. It is now fully operational, and a benchmark in quality for its type and it is time for us to turn it over to nationals to continue running. That was always the plan, and though I will be sad to leave , I am also very excited to continue with the next leg of my life journey.

We have planted over 25 ambulatory health care centers in rural villages. Over 1900 hundred indigenous children have been enrolled in schools as the first generation to be formally educated in their families. We have established Literacy Programs, Advocacy for Indigenous Women Programs, and over 50 Homework Helps Centers , all of which continue to operate.
