PROBLEM STATEMENT
Visually impaired individuals in Nigeria
face high unemployment due to
societal bias, inaccessible
opportunities, and limited support,
which can be addressed through AIdriven job-matching, assistive
technologies, tailored training, and
inclusive policies to foster equal
employment opportunities.
WHY IT MATTERS
This problem matters because
unemployment among visually impaired
individuals limits their financial
independence, social inclusion, and
overall quality of life.
By breaking these barriers through
technology and advocacy, we can create
equal opportunities, unlock untapped
potential, and drive economic and social
progress.

Aisha Adebayo

Gender: Female
Occupation: Elementary School Teacher (English
and Literature)
Location: Lagos, Nigeria (Urban setting)
Visual Impairment: Diagnosed with progressive
glaucoma at age 25, leading to significant visual
impairment.
Her mission: To lead, to educate, and to transform
classrooms into spaces of true inclusion. Aisha is
not waiting for change—she is working it! She
wants to be seen for her abilities not disabilities!

This data set comes from respondents in
the northern region of Nigeria. The data
shows the number of individuals with
visual impairments who have the following
educational backgrounds:. No education

DATA SET 2: Occupation
The second data set discusses the
occupations that individuals with visual
impairment (VI) can currently pursue
due to societal challenges.
These include:. Begging
. Other unskilled jobs
. Semi-skilled jobs

PROPOSED SOLUTION
Our proposed solution is an AI-powered job
matching and skills training platform
(software/app) specifically designed to
connect visually impaired individuals like
Aisha with inclusive employment
opportunities and provide them with
tailored skills development.
