In this study the Indian economy was viewed in the context of natural resource. Overwhelmingly the predominance of coal as a primary source of energy was noticed. Given such reliability on coal the availability, consumption and distribution aspect of coal as spread over the country was studied. With declining mining activity and moderate increase in coal production appropriate study is required to take stock of the resource. With this perspective in mind the study attempted to develop an extraction cum exploration model which can be utilized for proper valuation of coal resource.
