Technical Administrator of Wildlife Conservation Society, Flores, Petén, for the project
Monitoring of the Ecological Integrity of the Maya Biosphere Reserve. The main activities
were to provide technical and scientific assistance to all field and office personnel. Likewise, technical support
was provided to all other aspects such as administration, financing, accounting, informatics, logistics, as well as
to assist in internal and external institutional relationships.
2001 (March – September): Consultant of ONCA (Organización Nacional para la Conservación y el Ambiente) in
Puerto Barrios, Izabal, for the development of the Master Plan for Área de Protección
Especial Punta de Manabique. The activities in this work were based on being the link consultant to 11
communities of Punta de Manabique, GO’s and Local NGO’s in the area. Likewise I revised and assessed the
ONCA Team in social and environmental aspects of Punta de Manabique and Izabal. I was also in charge of all
the organization for the workshops that took place, in which representatives of Communities, GO’s and NGO’s
participated.
2000 (January –
December):
Chief of the Hydrobiological Resources Section, Department of Wild Life (Departamento
de Vida Silvestre) of the National Council for Protected Areas (Consejo Nacional de
Áreas Protegidas - CONAP), Region VIII, Petén. The activities in this GO were related mainly on:
coordination, revision, evaluation, and approval of technical projects on the management and extraction of
hydrobiological resources of Petén; participation in the elaboration of proposals that solved problems that rose
during my work; propose technical and scientific research; and, coordinate actions to reduce the illegal
extraction of hydrobiological resources within the area. Likewise, many activities were coordinated with NGOs
and GOs within and outside Petén. Approximately from July to December I worked strongly with fishing
communities around the Lake Petén Itzá, since a phenomenon of sudden death of the Blanco Fish (Petenia
splendida) took place.
