Celeste Marcus

I am a qualified TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teacher to ESL learners. I also have a Bachelors Degree in Construction Management Health & Safety. After graduating from university, I worked in the Construction Industry for 2 years as an Occupational Environmental Safety & Health Officer. During this time l learned a lot of skills around organization and communication. My duties and responsibilities included creating project specific ESH plans, conducting health & safety audits, incident investigation, leading meetings regarding project health & safety, conducting regular project inspections, participation in internal and external health & safety audits, and general administrative work. 

However, I later decided to make a big career change and pursue something entirely different which is teaching. I went on and worked at an Early Learning Centre for a year where I taught English, Art and Mathematics to children aged 4 - 5 years old. 

I also enjoy traveling, exploring and learning about different cultures, so I took a year off and moved to America where I worked as an Au Pair. During this time I took care of two wonderful children aged 3 and 5. My responsibilities included but was not limited to, getting the children ready for school and other activities. This taught me flexibility and time management skills and a great deal of patience as young children can be very unpredictable at times. I also prepared meals for the children, assisted them with online schooling and had to come up with creative ideas to keep them entertained while at home during the Covid 19 pandemic.  

After this experience I decided to pursue teaching English as a Foreign Language. I thoroughly enjoy online teaching because it enables me to work with different people from diverse cultural backgrounds (Italian, Spanish, Polish, Portuguese, Cuban). This aspect of my job has definitely taught me how to adapt my communication style to different cultures. I offer a variety of English courses such as general English, business English, interview preparation, and exam preparation courses (CAE and TOEFL). 

I would love to now take my passions and dreams to the next level and apply it in an environment where I can add value and allow it to grow with a strong vision.
