As a young kid, I had always been attracted to the creation of things. I loved to be able to look back on something that I actually created whether it was a poem, a short story, a drawing, or a digital environment.
As a teenager, I found myself submerged in just-for-fun personal projects on school nights and weekends. There was nothing that satisfied me more than basking in my own creative element. I created my own website geared towards my favorite site, Neopets, and wrote extensive tutorials for users like me to enjoy.
In 2008, I was rewarded a publication by Teen Ink Magazine for my poem, "Turning Point". I was so proud of this accomplishment because the senior editor of the magazine, Stephenie Meyer was one of my favorite novelists and was the best-selling author in the same year that my poem was published.
I am well aware that my accomplishments may be minuscule, are very few and far between, and may not be enough to build a professional timeline. Unfortunately, my educational timeline was cut short because life happens and I had to start working. However, this does not dim my hope in finding a profession, or even a secondary income to do what I really love. My current occupation is a perfect example of professional success, as I have worked my way up to the top from the bottom of the barrel.
What am I doing now? I am working full time at a high-end family-owned banquet and entertainment facility. In a nutshell, I market the business by maintaining their social media platforms, websites, e-mails, and print materials. I also oversee all front-office functions, sell tickets and banquet rooms. I started as a banquet server/hostess/receptionist. I could involve more forward-slashes, but I think you get the picture; in a family-owned business, everyone does everything! After 4 years of proving my creative ability and increasing sales, they moved me to my current position.
Why me? Well, my on-the-job experience has served me well. My life-long drive for creativity and advancement will ensure that you have hired someone that is passionate about what they do.
