For the last 9 years, my role as a full time classroom teacher has provided me with great joy. I grew as a professional in many ways during these years. Specifically, I communicated and collaborated with my peers to ensure the days, weeks, and entire school years were successful. I also differentiated instruction in my daily teaching to ensure I was delivering information in a way that each student could understand. Finally, I implemented creative and effective methods to actively engage students in the learning process..
While I look at my years teaching very fondly, I’m ready to shift my career focus. Fortunately, I think my time in education helped me to develop skills that are extremely transferable to other fields. I became very detail-oriented in day-to-day tasks that needed to be completed. I learned the value of being flexible, and balancing multiple priorities at once. I also fostered relationships with my peers, and experienced the value of working together on a team.
Outside of the classroom, I embraced opportunities to work with others in the Washington, DC community. I volunteered and tutored at Children’s National Hospital, and I really enjoyed interacting with patients and families in this setting. I mentored several children in under-resourced communities in an effort to provide social support and build positive decision making skills. I also assisted adults with intellectual disabilities in setting goals and objectives through athletic events as a Special Olympics coach. These experiences with different populations have allowed me to become more well rounded when working with people from all walks of life.
I would love to utilize many of my strengths to make a positive impact, and I think I could make a big difference within an organization. I appreciate an emphasis on teamwork and collaboration, and I know I can contribute these values to any team that I’m part of. Thank you for reading my application, and I appreciate your consideration.
