(- - Individual Education Programs (IEP) and Curriculum Development
As part of my duties and own development, I regularly researched different
curriculums, to understand the outcomes of different grade levels, and how to best
support the learning support students.
According to this research, IEP’s and learning support curriculums were developed,
to accommodate students’ learning strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore,
teachers and parents were included in this process, so that the best support could
be rendered in class and at home.
Assessments
I assessed students, the classroom environment and educational materials/resources
in order to recommend appropriate strategies that enhanced the educational
outcomes of students with learning difficulties.
Furthermore, I provided and documented diagnostic assessments and teaching of
individual students, experiencing learning barriers, and reported on each of those
students' progress as required.
Support for teachers and parents
I participated in and promoted networking of teachers, who experience learning
difficulties in their classroom, in sharing examples of best practice. Once these
learning difficulties were identified in class, I prepared workshops to equip teachers
to support students in their class. With regards to this, meetings were arranged with
parents to support and equip them, to support their children at home.
Collaboration with professionals
For further recommendations I worked collaboratively with other specialists (e.g.
speech therapists, occupational therapists, educational psychologists and
paediatricians) to coordinate services for these students.
Personal development
I support a whole school professional development programme to address both
learning difficulties and teaching practices, thus I maintain specialist teaching
expertise and knowledge of effective teaching for students with learning difficulties.

(JUNE 2013 – JUNE 2015; JULY 2012 – SEPTEMBER 2012)
Duties
Learning Support for Students
I supported students from Gr R – 7. This included support with early childhood
development (including all pre-learning skills), reading, mathematics and support
with language development (English).
Collaboration with professionals, teachers and parents
I worked with an Institution-level Support Team to report barriers that are
encountered by learners in the classroom, helping teachers to support learners in the
classroom and setting interventions in place for children that may require help from
either social workers, doctors or parents.
Curriculum development and Individual Educational Programs
I facilitated in adapting the curriculum to the LSEN learner (to differentiate according
to individual needs) in the following ways:
o Identify specific learning needs.
o Focus on early identification of barriers to learning.
o Assess these learners, monitor and report their progress.
o Involving the parents and teachers in supporting them and keeping them up
to date with their child’s strengths and progress.
o Advising on alternative assessment methods.
Counselling
I counselled teachers and students. This involved one-on-one or group counselling.
Group sessions occurred when a problem was identified that many students
struggled with i.e. bullying, divorce or trauma.
As needed meetings were set up between teachers and students, parents and
students or a team meeting of students, teachers and parents. I also worked with
teachers in class to run special programs according to the needs in the classroom i.e.
differences in learning, bullying and self-confidence.
