About

Hello!

I am an educator with 20 years of experience. I am certified in Washington State with endorsements in Special Education and Secondary English; however, I have been mainly teaching math for the last 8 years.

I have a master's degree in education from the University of Washington. My course of study emphasized working with kids who have behavioral and emotional challenges.

I have worked with kids with learning disabilities, ADHD/executive functioning issues, autism spectrum disorder, Down syndrome, and emotional and behavioral disabilities- as well as typically-developing students. I have experience with students in grades 3 - 12. I have designed and implemented instruction in basic math, pre-algebra, English (reading and writing), social studies, executive functioning (organization, time management, study skills, etc.), and social skills/behavior.

Due to a lack of content that offered my students engaging and accessible lessons and activities, I became adept at creating curricular materials that met the needs of diverse learners.

I am well-versed in Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and served as a teacher on special assignment (TOSA) to educate and train teachers in UDL principles and practices.

I love connecting with students and helping them to find their strengths. If you feel that I would be a good match for your child's needs, I look forward to working with you and your student soon!

Former supervisors have noted:

"Brie has been an asset to since the moment she stepped foot in our building. Brie has a student-centered mind, heart, and soul. She takes the time to get to know each student and family which helps her build strong relationships that positively impact her classroom. When walking into Brie's classroom it feels calm, organized, and comfortable. With Brie's student-centered approach and relationships, her students grow exponentially socially and academically. Brie has a true gift of finding ways to draw kids into cognitively complex tasks and build their confidence simultaneously."

"Bridget is highly proficient in recognizing and responding to the individual student learning needs within her classroom. At the core of her practice is the fostering of success in every student, no matter their particular level at entry. Bridget develops confidence and belief in every student. Bridget develops lessons to build upon all students’ skills, chunking and monitoring progress along the way. She does not let students fall through the cracks and will not move on if students do not understand. This is important to their overall success and growth. Her intentional use of formative checks and self-evaluation of lesson effectiveness demonstrate her proficiency in scaffolding information within lessons."

“Miss Ellis’ high energy and nurturing presence motivates her students to become actively engaged. Her students continue to mirror her energy and commitment to learning.”

In addition to teaching, I am a freelance writer, with experience writing newsletters for non-profit agencies and articles (education and human interest) for local publications.
