I have a higher hourly rate published here that reflects my independent speed of production and experience. If your project is thoroughly communicated, this is a better value than going with a less experienced contractor. Measure twice, cut once.

If the project requires your intervention or creative solution that doesn't require fast, accurate work I am willing to take a flat or lower hourly rate to compensate. I don't mind doing this because it helps out the final result in the long run. This usually occurs with audio editing, video, directed projects or with clients that just need someone to help them through the process.
