EXPERIENCE
2016 - Present. Patent/Design Engineer - Remote Online Freelancer
Routinely authors patents and scientific and technical articles, research articles and grants. Often involved in
design engineering for inventors and startups. Experienced 3D illustrator with expertise in AutoCAD
Inventor, Autodesk Fusion360 Microstation, Autodesk123, Keyshot and google sketchup. Proficient in
statistical packages such as SPSS and Systat. Considered to be a ‘one-stop-shop’ for inventors. Sometimes
injected directly into a client’s ongoing workflow as a design engineer, collaborator and consultant-. Curriculum Specialist & ESSYI Associate Director, HWS Colleges, Geneva, NY.
As a Curriculum Specialist in the HWS Education Department, I develop environmental education lesson
plans for high school teachers in order to promote the use of geo-spatial technologies and Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) in the classroom. I generate GIS maps and design lesson plans grounded in
STEM cores to explore environmental conservation strategies as part of a National Science Foundation
grant-funded project called ‘Crossing Boundaries.’ I routinely collaborate with Cornell University educators
and local high school teachers. I prepare lesson plans and units for web and print publications that analyze
biodiversity conservation issues in upstate New York and in international regions such as Kenya and Puerto
Rico. As part of the grant responsibilities, I facilitate group workshops and organize and disseminate
technological resources for teachers through an open-source web server. I am also the Associate Director
for the HWS Environmental Studies Summer Youth Institute (a two-week college experience program for
high school students known as ‘ESSYI’). I am responsible for coordinating the logistics of the program:
managing budgets, generating marketing materials, managing the website, scheduling faculty learning
sessions, conducting advertising and outreach, organizing applications & records, maintaining equipment
inventories, hiring and training student staff, and assisting in the selection of the actual program participants.
I also chaperone during the week-long camping & wilderness expedition in the Adirondack Mountains-. Senior Environmental Consultant, Greystone, East Syracuse, NY
Responsibilities included comprehensive, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) audit and program
management consulting services for Fortune-500 medical equipment manufacturers; electronic
communication component developers; sand and gravel processors, paper and pulp manufacturers; largescale dairy processors; as well as for college campus administrations in the Central, New York Region. EHS
performance-based solutions were tailored around clients’ specific organizational models and were
structured in an effort to build, and improve upon, their current level of EHS compliance. Environmental
goals were achieved by working seamlessly with company presidents, managers and laborers to facilitate the
development of company-wide, hazardous chemical procurement policies; researched and established indepth environmental procedures; developed hazardous waste stream strategies and hazardous waste space
plans for new and existing structures; and coordinated episodic cleanouts of poorly-managed, existing
hazardous waste storage spaces. Environmental projects also included compliance programs for the clean
water act: spill prevention control and counter measure plans, best management plans, storm water
pollution prevention plans and state discharge elimination system plans. Other projects included waterquality oriented, human risk assessments, laboratory chemical hygiene plans and sustainability assessments
(energy usage and carbon footprint metrics) as well as emergency management plans. Safety compliance
goals were achieved by continuously working with management to minimize hazards through accident
investigations and engineering solutions. Safety cultures were improved by fostering worker participation
and team building. Safety engineering services included designing process-specific, plans and models for
process hazard analysis, job hazard analysis and fault hazard analysis in manufacturing environments- Pesticide Aerosol Drift Post-doctoral Researcher,Cornell NYSAES, Geneva, NY
Research responsibilities included: Prototype development and testing of precision pesticide sprayers to
minimize environmental impacts. Applying state-of-the-art control systems to increase spraying accuracy
using RFID, PLC and GIS technologies. Acted as lead researcher for the development of a precision fruit
sprayer prototype with Carnegie Mellon and the University of Florida on a USDA funded project. This
work included the establishment of a robotic agricultural spraying system to minimize environmental and
health impacts from pesticide drift in Florida orange groves. Responsible for coordinating Cornell’s role in
the project that included pesticide application design and engineering drawings, prototype development and
calibration site visits and collaborative meetings. New York research responsibilities included acting as lead
grant writer, designer, engineer, field tester, statistical analyst, and article writer for programs associated with
sprayer applications technology for local apple orchards and vineyards. These projects included testing new
types of air flow controllers, infrared- controlled spray systems, and anemometer- based, tree canopy flow
studies.
- Environmental Health & Safety Specialist,Indiana University, Bloomington, IN
Program responsibilities have included: Storm water management planning: conveyance mapping, illicit
discharge investigation and elimination, water sampling, construction and best management practices
inspections, education and outreach. Title V Air Quality Permitting for Indian University's Coal-fired
Central Heating Plant: Quarterly and annual emission inventory and rate calculations for six stoker boilers
with electrostatic precipitator and continuous opacity monitor. National Pollutant Discharge Elimination
System Permitting: Outfall management and reporting outfall flow calculations and sampling for inactive
coal pile runoff lagoons. Indoor Air Quality : Response, sampling, analysis and reporting, HVAC and
infrastructure inspections and bioerosols sampling including: Fungi, VOCs, Formaldehyde, CO2, CO, H2S.
Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasures: Plan generation & management, tank and receiving water
inventory, annual inspections & training. Ergonomics: Faculty and staff computer workstation evaluations
and recommendations, departmental presentations. Safety Training: First Aid /CPR/AED, Fall Protection,
Hearing Conservation, Lifting Safety, Eye Protection, Electrical Safety. Safety Training Database: Usability
design and maintenance of campus-wide training inventory of all employees of the University system
(including regional campuses).Videoconferencing: Management of Polycom videoconferencing system for
national and international asynchronous environmental/safety presentations.
- Senior Environmental Scientist, RAPPS Engineering, Springfield, IL
Responsibilities included: Phase II site remediation project manager for polluted sites under the Illinois
Leaking Underground Storage Tank and Federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. Projects
included large-scale environmental risk assessments, brown field petroleum tank pulls, groundwater
monitoring well development and sampling, asbestos management planning and abatement oversight,
remediation and demolition site safety plans, EPA report generations, landfill submittals for hazardous
waste and phase I reporting. Clients included gasoline service stations, vehicle service stations and pesticide
load out facilities- Environmental Technician,Parametrix, Honolulu, HI
Responsibilities Included: Environmental sampling, Civil CAD Design, Civil Roadway Design, Water
Sampling, Soil Coring, marketing presentations- CAD Operator,CH2MHILL, Boston, MA
