Manufacturing and research engineer.
Bristol, UK
Contractor on behalf of Airbus UK.
Team leader and responsible for the deliveries. Team size 2.
Project: Numerical Factory Simulation (NFS). Mar 2015 – Aug 2017.
The objective of this project was to study the current manufacturing techniques existing in Airbus and to
produce a set of tools to aid with preliminary phases of factory design, come up with the number of
resources needed (machines, workers, tools, surface, and transportation). Different scenarios and
interfaces of the factory with suppliers were considered.
Tasks:
Studied the state of the art wing factories in Broughton to understand the manufacturing processes
and the change that new disruptive manufacturing capabilities would bring to future factories.
Analyzed the current production planning tools and capabilities within Airbus.
Extended previous tools created to allow for the simulation of other scenarios, technologies and
build philosophies.
Used Discrete Event Simulation along with Agent Based simulation using the Anylogic software
package.
Designed a set of inputs required to run a simulation and implemented the interface with the
simulation software through a Java script.
Optimized the level of resources needed in the factories. Monitored the level of stocks of final and
intermediate products in the simulation and compared them to the levels existing in working
factories.
Analyzed the impact of changes and delay in the supply chain.
Created a Project Management Plan (PMP) to track the project.
Achievements: Tool produced was downselected to serve as the simulation framework for the fuselage
demonstrator in the next generation aircraft initial phases.
Tools and skills applied: Java, Anylogic, Eclipse, Heuristical Optimisation, Design of Experiments
Technical lead and responsible for communication with customers and stakeholders.
Project: QUIET SimPy. Sep 2015 – Mar 2016.
Tasks:
Extended the Python open source library SimPy to perform Discrete Event Simulation adapted to
manufacturing.
Migrated the existing models in the legacy tool QUEST to a full application written in Python.
Validated the results obtained.
Created an excel front end featuring a VBA-Python connection for visualising the results live.
Simulated an aircraft wing manufacture facility using real shopfloor data.
Documented the full project. Handed over the tool and knowledge acquired to the customer.
Tools and skills applied: Python, SimPy, VBA, Delmia QUEST, TDD, UML, CAMTASIA, TDD, UML
Project: Agile Wing Integration Hackathon. Weeks 3 and 42 of 2016.
Tasks:
Agile Wing Integration Project. Lead by Airbus with academic partners and government funding.
Created a series of models and prototypes for a feasibility study previous to large scale tool
developments in the context of the AWI Project.
Lead manufacturing team. Team size 8.
Supported the event organisation.
Presented the results obtained and liaised with the other 2 teams in the hackathon.
Project: Django web server development. 2 months.
Created a web service for our customers to access a visualization tool on data acquired from
factories and processed with JavaScript D3.
Project: A350 Quality survey and prediction. Apr 2016 – Oct 2016
Creation of predictive models for classification and regression problems with data provided by
quality from issues encountered in final assembly line.
Development of visual analytical tools to facilitate the data exploration.
Tools and skills: Data analysis, Spotify, Python
