I am a native-level English and Portuguese speaker who has lived in Brazil, the US, Denmark, Poland, and Germany. Being bilingual has allowed me to do translation work as well as conduct in-depth interviews and research in both languages. I have spent several months in African countries - South Africa and Mozambique - and a couple of months in Switzerland for scholarly research and internship periods with NGOs, respectively. This moving around has made me highly adaptable, culturally sensitive and resilient.
In terms of professional background, I got my bachelor's in journalism, with a minor in international relations, from an American university, and worked for five years as a reporter for different American newspapers. In addition, I have a Master's and PhD in Global Studies from a German university and have done some teaching, having designed my own course for a semester. I currently run my own business, a web magazine in English based in Leipzig (The Leipzig Glocal - https://leipglo.com). I am proficient with word processors and cloud-based systems, Wordpress, MailChimp, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter - tools I have had to use on a regular basis for my work. I have experience with various research methods from journalism and my long years in school, and can stick to a project for several years until completed, as I did with my dissertation.
Besides writing, editing, proofreading, and managing my own website and its social media accounts, I organize events like job fairs, open mics and pub crawls. I also manage relations with clients and content contributors for leipglo.com. It is difficult to earn a stable monthly income with the business, however, as it is still a startup; and for this reason, I am searching for jobs or tasks that allow me to be flexible while earning decent income. I have done freelance communications work for a Leipzig-based NGO in the past.
Among other soft skills, I have built a community over the past 4.5 years that is loyal and appreciative, with people volunteering to write, edit and do other tasks for the web magazine. Previously, when living in North Carolina, I ran a poetry blog for a newspaper that eventually became a community offline, as well - evolving into my organizing poetry readings and other similar events on a weekly basis. Before becoming a journalist, I worked as a singer and in various service industry positions.
