Pak-Arab Refinery Ltd (PARCO), Karachi, Pakistan | Analyst – Crude Oil Markets
2013 – 2017
I was in charge of handling commercial matters related to crude oil procurement. Some of the main activities involved were market
analysis, contract management, oil receipts data analysis for monitoring purposes, collaboration with multiple internal and external
stakeholders.
Key Accomplishments:
- Helped the company save more than 500 Million USD by recommending to enhance/reduce inventories at oil price trigger events
such as Iran nuclear deal, OPEC supply cut deal etc.
- Developed the entire MIS for analysis of crude oil receipts data for reconciliation; reduced the turnaround time for the activity by
over 50%
- Developed queries on MySQL as well as Teradata to retrieve important business data; reduced dependence on IT department
resulting in almost 30% reduction in turnaround time for business analysis tasks
- Initiated monthly research based reports on crude oil markets that helped keep the team up to date with latest global developments
- Developed oil receipts and inventory monitoring reports by collaborating with Finance; increased monitoring frequency from
weekly to a daily basis
- Conducted comprehensive 15-year demand forecast of Motor gasoline and Residual Furnace Oil using regression analysis
- Worked closely with operations in order to understand on ground operational issues faced in crude oil decantation. This led to
reduction in turnaround time for resolution of disputes since I was able to effectively mediate between suppliers & operations
- Initiated a drive to reduce paper usage in my section; successfully ensured digitization of oil survey reports, oil
handling/monitoring reports
- Made successful recommendations for revisions in standard operating procedures related to my area leading to greater efficiency

The management trainee program consisted of a month’s rotation in each of the bank’s departments. The aim was to prepare bankers

- Developed a complete regional profile of Karachi district with regards to the market for Development Finance related products of
SBP. The bank required such a profile so that they could get a snapshot of the economy of the concerned districts in order to assist
in the launch of new products.
- Worked on SBP’s quarterly newsletter; the purpose was to make the newsletter more informative as well as attractive such that
employees found more interest in reading through it.
- Helped create an easily accessible database for handling data coming from the various agricultural pilot projects of SBP.
