Akang Inyene Akan is a dedicated microbiologist and public health researcher and teacher with expertise in food microbiology, food safety, parasitology, and infectious disease dynamics. Currently serving as a Senior Research Assistant at Helix Research Laboratory, Helix Biogen Institute in Nigeria, he specializes in molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, plasmid design, and primer construction for gene amplification.
A First-Class Honours graduate in Microbiology from the University of Uyo, Akang’s undergraduate thesis explored alternative microbiological media and stains from local resources for microbial isolation. His research experience spans microbial pathogenesis, bioremediation, and antifungal studies, with publications in peer-reviewed journals such as the Science World Journal and FUDMA Journal of Sciences.
Beyond research, Akang has extensive teaching experience, having served as a Senior Biology Instructor at Bell International School, where he achieved a 95% student pass rate. He is also an active member of professional bodies, including the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), and contributes to community development initiatives aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
