My experience as the youth development coordinator at the Belitung Coastal
Community Group (BCCG) has formed an adaptability within myself with
multilayer of society, and taught me how to collaborate inter generation in the
pursuit of creating ideas and innovation to constantly seek for solution to
preserve the nature.
I have developed a vast network and skills set that are relevant to tourism.
Combined with my communications academic background, I am committed to
mobilise people through Eco and Community Based Tourism to strive to always
make impact for others. My dedication in team work at the BCCG, has awarded us
the Equator Prize 2015 by the UNDP in the category of Community-based
Adaptation.
In the development of Community Based Tourism in a rural area, the
development and core concept of the model should be based on the aspiration of
people of the grassroot, the natives. To be able to hear the story, a leader should
be able to get off of his/her high horse, and live in their communities to try to
blend in and experience a life they live. Through good communications, a leader
should be able to mobilise and inspire people to create a “collective dream,” a
vision and mission to which the local communities build together for a better
future. The key is to listen and to be able to communicate and network. In order
to come up with a good solution, a leader has to really understand and
experience the problem first hand.
